The Custodial Services department is comprised of over 500 highly dedicated employees working at over 150 district facilities. We are responsible for providing a safe, healthy and clean learning environment for the students, staff, and communities of Jeffco. In addition to cleaning tasks, Custodial Services employees support many other activities such as athletics, after school activities, community building use, lawn maintenance, snow removal, and much more.

Min-Mid Annual Salary Range: $80,317.00 - $96,240.00 Effective as of: 06-16-2023


**Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT

The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY Supervise and manage support programs necessary in providing custodial services for District schools and facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assist in the administration of department and District personnel policies concerning vacation schedules, evaluations, promotions, transfers, discipline, and grievance resolution.
Consult, advise, and provide assistance and direction to school administrators and staff members and acts as a liaison with those supporting services relating to custodial services.
Supervise custodial services personnel and assist in establishing operating procedures to provide conformity with District-wide standards.
Inspect schools, facilities, and grounds with regard to cleanliness, fire safety hazards, maintenance, security, and health standards.
Assist principals, Area Administrators, and department personnel in understanding and complying with CSEA Negotiated Agreement.
Manage service and select materials contracts. Coordinate provider/user service contracts.
Authorize overtime and temporary assignments of custodial personnel to meet emergencies and alleviate problems.
Approve administrative transfers for custodial employees..
Order equipment and supplies to complete assigned work.
Supervise, evaluate, and/or review evaluations of Facility Managers, Head Custodians, and Custodians.
Assists in the preparation of the operating budget.

EXPERIENCE Requires seventy two (72) months of supervisory experience, in which 30 months must have been as a Facility Manager (FM-5/FM-4) or Area Facilitator, to include 8 years of custodial related work experience. Must have successfully completed the Minor Maintenance training and First Line Supervisory course. .
EDUCATION AND TRAINING High school diploma/GED required. Two years of college preferred, but not required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Colorado driver's license.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Knowledge of ADA guidelines, supervisory skills, basic microcomputer, word processing, and spreadsheet skills.
DECISION MAKING Requires detailed analysis and application of technical and professional standards to determine alternatives and recommendations. Errors in decision making could compromise safety on school sites and compliance with health and safety standards, resulting in cost and/or embarrassment to the District.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS Daily contact with classified staff, professional staff, and vendors/contractors to negotiate controversial matters. Weekly contact with students, parents, citizen committees, general public, public agencies and local government to negotiate controversial matters.
SPAN OF CONTROL Directly supervises up to 144 Facility Managers, in the Custodial Services Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Assists with both budget development and accountability.
EDUCATIONAL DELIVERY Manages, plans, organizes, and controls district-wide custodial services. Responsible for safe and efficient custodial services directly working with employees and school-based administrators. Provides leadership and standards for the department, including, responsibility for hiring, training, supervision, evaluating and terminating of employees in accordance with District policy, negotiated contract, and government regulations.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK Work is assigned by Director, Custodial Services. As functional supervisor, hiring, discipline, transfers, promotions, and terminations. Responsible for decision making in order to conform with state/federal employment guidelines, contract language, EEOC regulations, ADA regulations, District policy, and unemployment guidelines. In making decisions employee must use analytical and conflict management skills consistently prior to making decisions. Requires independent judgment and thinking, interpretation of facts and problem solving within boundaries of District policy, negotiated agreement and governmental regulations.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate. The employee is frequently required to copy.
WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather); risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
OTHER INFORMATION This position works directly with volatile personalities in an extremely stressful environment. Must have ability to deal with numerous angry, demanding, and condescending community members. A person in this position has to have the skills and temperament to deal frequently with a large extent of anger management mediation and negotiation of controversial matters while attempting to maintain positive relationships with the community. May be required to work flexible or alternate shifts.
